
REFERENCE / FOREIGN AND INTERNATIONAL LAW LIBRARIAN / LECTURER-IN-LAW, LAW LIBRARY, 40 HPW
DESCRIPTION: The Alyne Queener Massey Law Library at Vanderbilt University seeks a creative, energetic, and highly customer-oriented librarian with expertise in foreign & international legal research, or an interest in developing such an expertise. The Reference / Foreign & International Law Librarian will provide legal research and reference services and participate in the faculty liaison program, as well as teach legal research classes in the first-year Legal Research & Writing program. The person in this position will also have an opportunity to develop and teach an upper-division legal research course. This position reports to the Director of the Law Library.
Key Responsibilities:
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and an M.L.S. from an ALA accredited library school. Substantial knowledge of legal bibliography and legal research techniques in both print and electronic formats. Significant experience providing legal research and reference services in a law library. Teaching experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong service orientation, and the ability to interact positively with law faculty, students, colleagues, and public patrons. Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in foreign & international legal research or an interest in developing such an expertise.
ENVIRONMENT: With a collection of over 600,000 volumes and access to leading legal electronic resources, the Alyne Queener Massey Law Library supports the curriculum, the research interests of the students and faculty, and the editorial needs of four student publications. The library is also a select depository for U.S. government documents. As part of Vanderbilt University's Jean and Alexander Heard Library, the Massey Law Library provides access to a broad range of non-legal resources, including business, science, and medical publications. The Jean and Alexander Heard Library at Vanderbilt University has a staff of over 200, an annual budget exceeding $23 million, over 3.4 million volumes, 3 million microforms, and 55,000 serials, of which some 47,000 are available electronically. TERM LIBRARY ASSISTANT III, CENTRAL LIBRARY, 40 HPW, 6-MONTH TERM
Functional Title: Central Circulation Assistant
DESCRIPTION: Please note this is a 6-month term position. The Term Library Assistant III provides support for the service desk operation of the Central Library. The person in this position serves as backup for many functions handled by the Service Desk Supervisor, participates in desk service and the supervision of student employees.
Key Functions and Responsibilities:
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a bachelor's degree and one year of experience or the equivalent. This position also requires the ability to lift books and other materials up to 50lbs and the ability to push a book cart up to 300lbs. Moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, stretching, stooping are required. Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have at least one year of library experience; cash-handling experience; customer service and supervisory experience.
