What are the fines for overdue books in Divinity?
Books are .20/day, with a 7-day grace period.
Items on 2-hour reserve are .60/hour, with a 60-minute grace period.
Items checked out overnight are due at 8 a.m., with a 60-minute grace period.
Items on 1-day reserve are $1/hour, with NO grace period.
How does a grace period work?
If you turn in your overdue book within 7 days, you pay no fine, even though the computer still "counts" those days as overdue. If you turn your book in on day 8, you would have to pay the whole overdue fine of $1.80.
How will I know that I have an overdue?
You will get up to 3 Overdue Notices sent by the computer system to whatever address is designated as your "primary". It’s a good idea to get your primary set to e-mail notification. E-mail notifications are sent out on the day a book becomes overdue. With notification.
How will I know what my fine is?
It is not until after you return your Overdue Book and have it discharged that your total fine will be calculated. If you turn your book in at the Circulation Desk, you can find out your fine amount. Or you may choose to wait to receive a bill in the mail.
How can I pay a fine?

How long can a book be overdue?
The maximum overdue fine that can be accrued is $15.00 (about 75 days); however, if after receiving three overdue notices a patron still does not return or renew the over due item, s/he is also billed for replacement the item.
The Total Cost = the Item’s Replacement Cost + $15 Billing Charge + $35 Cataloging fee.
Divinity will always attempt to contact the patron before billing to give the opportunity of returning or replacing the book.
How long do I have to take care of my fines?
Once you receive a 1st Bill, you have until the 15th of the following month to the pay the fine. If you do not pay the bill, it will be transferred to Student Accounts.
What does it mean to have a fine transferred to Student Accounts?
The patron is still responsible for the fine, but must pay Student Accounts. The library account will not reflect an outstanding fine.
Some students prefer to pay their fines by transfer to Student Accounts, as it allows them to make one payment for many bills (tuition, parking, etc.). However, if one does not pay Student Accounts on time, that department can add fees and block registration.
What if I don’t agree with a fine?
Your next step will be to call or come by Divinity Circulation. If the Public Services Librarian, Sandra Riggs is available, you can talk to her about your concern. If the Public Services Librarian is not available, you can fill out a white "Circulation Problem" form. Explain your concern and leave the form at the desk. The Librarian will review the form and contact you.
