CHECK OUT: Special Features and "Gadgets"

  1. Opening screen has one "Wizard" or Helper, plus 2 standard Wizard buttons.
  2. "Look up patron" allows you to find a person’s ID# by using their name. You don’t have to search then go back to your screen. As soon as you find the person’s name, one of the options will be to select that patron for check out. See the second image.
  3.

  4. Make sure that the name matches the person. For example, there are currently 4 Elizabeth Thompsons in ACORN. Make sure that you have the correct patron by checking middle initials, or reading out the ID# to the patron for confirmation.
  5.

  6. About RESTORE and ERASE -- RESTORE allows you to go back to the last information entered. This is useful if you accidently erased information. ERASE only clears the information in the field box. It does not erase or cancel a transaction.

Note: If a person has fines or overdue items, Workflows allows you to investigate the items without having to get out of the Check Out window.

It is good to ask first if the patron wants to know about his/her fines and overdues rather than surprising them with all the details up front. Ask before investigating. Many people will want to know about their fines and overdues, but some will not want you to take the time. There is not a Library requirement to investigate. Remember, if the person is blocked, then Workflows will not perform the check out.

Special Due Date is a function that requires a password override. Circulation supervisors and the Public Services Librarian can change the item’s due date.
