Vanderbilt's library use policy is based upon the principle of exclusion.
In general, persons who are not affiliated with the Vanderbilt community may not have library access, unless they purchase access from the Lobby Desk in Central.
Purchasing Access: The Central Lobby Desk is open weekday hours from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. If the person wishes to use the library, they must come during these times in order to purchase an access card.
Divinity Exceptions: All first time visitors are allowed into the Divinity Library. They should fill out a visitor's card and be told that further access will require an access card purchase, as mentioned above.
Member of the Clergy and Jewish Community may get borrowing privileges for only the Divinity library (not the whole Vanderbilt system), by completing an application.
Abuse of Privileges
Loaning Library Cards
Library cards are ONLY for the individual to whom they are issued. They should not be loaned to a "friend". The person to whom the card is issued is responsible for anything charged out on that card, regardless of who actually has possession of the item.
Visiting friends
They should NOT be allowed in by the student sliding their card twice, since we loose a statistical count. We have cards that we can use to let them in and get a visitor count. This is also how we handle letting in people who don't have their cards with them.
