Closing the Divinity Library

(last content update 6/7/00)

For consistency, use the clock across from circulation to time closing procedures

One hour before closing, reshelve all books, magazines and seminary catalogs in the reference room, by the copiers and in the Judaica room. Also do a general clean-up -- this means checking all open carrels for books, both upstairs and down, and looking for books in all reshelving areas, upstairs and down.

20 minutes before closing, walk through the library and tell patrons that the library will be closing.  In addition, check each chair in the library to see if someone might have their head down.  If the patron is asleep, they may not hear you, and you may not see them.  It is important that we check carefully, so that we do not lock any patrons in the library after closing.

5 minutes before closing (no earlier than 5 minutes) turn off the lights on the first floors.  Please wait until exactly the closing hour before turning off the second floor lights.

Money Drawer - This is handled by a circulation supervisor or someone trained by the Public Services Librarian.

Turn off the copiers

Turn off the elevator.  Use the elevator key which is attached to a bookend.  There are 2 key-slots in the elevator.  You want to use the one on the top right of the control panel in the elevator.  Move the slot from "ON" to "OFF."

Turn off the handicap access pad.  The cylindrical key located with the elevator key, activates and deactivates the handicap access pad outside the main entrance.  Use this key to turn OFF this access point each night.  The pad is ACTIVE when the slots in the lock are aligned at the 3:00 o'clock position.  Insert the key, and a slight amount of additional inward pressure is necessary to allow the cylinder to rotate.  Rotate the key counter clockwise 90 degrees.  Remove the key, and the slots on the lock will be aligned in the 12 o'clock position.  The pad is now deactivated.

Exit out of all public workstations (including the station downstairs) and turn off the power at the CPU.  The one exception is the stand-alone computer in the 221 room area.  Turn this public workstation off at the power strip.
