Fines - Error or Forgiven
Fines may be forgiven ONLY by a
full-time staff member
POLICY SECTION
Forgive -- Only full-time staff members can forgive
fines, because it is:
- a legitimate fine that is not assessed
Error -- Supervisors may "pay" the fine
as an error in these circumstances:
- material was reshelved without being discharged
- the wrong date has been stamped in the book
These items have sometimes been thought of as errors, but
are not now. These items must be FORGIVEN.
- Books returned to other libraries that accrue fines while in
route -- This must be forgiven, as it is the patron's responsibility to either return
the book to Divinity, or to allow for time in book drop, etc.
- Patron did not receive overdue notice -- The patron should
have a date stamped in the book. Also, it is the patron's responsibility to inform
us of address changes or contact problems.
- Other due date problems -- If the book does not reflect the
current due date, but the book has been renewed online, the patron assumes responsibility
for knowing the due date. Before assuming that the due day problem is an error,
check the record to see if the item was renewed.
