Professor wants to add an article to a reservepak
The professor may provide the library with the copies (or we can photocopy after the beginning of the semester rush) to be added to the reservepak. To include the article, place the pak on the machine, open the spine, and remove the articles that would come before the addition. Place the addition on the spine, replace the other articles and the cover, and close the spine. Add the title of the article to the table of contents.
Student claims item should be on reserve but is not
Frequently professors and the library cross wires, which results in confusion over what is and is not on reserve. If a student comes in looking for an item which s/he understands to be on reserve but which is not actually on reserve according to Acorn, the PST staff member on duty should call the professor (excep after regular office hours) and clear up the misunderstanding. If it is after 5:00 P.M., the desk worker should make a note of the problem with the course number and the title of the item and leave it for the PST morning supervisor.
Student claims that the professor has made a request for a change in the loan period of an item
Professors must now make requests for changes in loan periods, (e.g., 2hr loan to one week) directly to a library circulation staff person. This means that they must contact us either by phone, in writing, or through e-mail. We will not change the loan period without this formal permission. If the student insists that it is o.k. with the professor, tell him/her to have the professor call us.
Student papers on reserve
Only one item record needs to be used for each folder of student papers. When students turn in papers, make sure they have the course number on the paper. If it is not on there, write it in pencil in the top corner. If there are two sections for the class, make sure that the paper goes in the correction section folder.
Uncat Items -- Copies of Exams, Dissertation proposals, MDiv Projects
These are located in the bottom drawer of the three drawer cabinet. These are listed in the Permanent Reserves Binder, so the patron can know what to ask for.
Loan Periods
Most items are on reserve for two hours, but some have other loan periods. Pay attention to the date and time due on the screen when you charge a reserve item out, so you can write the correct time on the date due slip.
