Divinity Library Bibliographer's Job Description
Responsibilities
- Serves as a subject specialist in one of the GDR subject areas for the Divinity Library
- Recommends materials for selection (books, journals, databases)
- Acts as liaison with faculty
- Keeps up with the research interests of relevant GDR faculty and students for the purposes of library materials selection
Typically, the position is scheduled for five hours a week. Flexibility is built into the position to accommodate the ebb and flow of the materials acquisition workflow and the bibliographers' academic demands.
Other tasks for which bibliographers may be called upon to lend their subject expertise:
- Assistance in responding to subject specific reference questions in their area, including training staff and patrons on how to use specialized databases
- Assisting library cataloging staff with language or subject expertise
- Participation in orientation at the beginning of each academic year
- Contacting new students to let them know the bibliographer's willingness to order material that supports their research
- Maintain a working relationship with faculty in assigned subject area and keeping them informed about current library issues
- Keeping up with current research in your field and getting as broad a sense as possible of what resources are available and what current trends are in your field that will help you make informed choices on what is best to order
