(updated 6/15/00)
If a patron sets off the turnstile (buzz or whine), please do the
following:
let the patron in immediately
take the patron's card and say that you will check on the problem while s/he looks around
check ACORN by patron name AND patron's card ID# to see if s/he has a current library account.
There will be will usually be 4 possible outcomes:
-- Assuming the patron's status is OK, and there are no messages in the record, call Elaine to see if there is a Gen6 problem. Follow Elaine's instructions on what access or privileges to extend to the patron.
-- If the patron is not enrolled, or is not in the ACORN system, let him/her know that the registrar's tape-load controls student status and we cannot change it. They usually need to purchase access from Central or go get an alumni card from Central (who will make them go to the card office as well). If the patron meets our qualifications to obtain a Clergy/Judaica card, then we can issue it upon application.
--If there is a message from Elaine in the record, follow the message instructions. Usually the message is something like "Send SSN to Elaine if privilege is renewed, then remove this message from the record." Do make sure that you leave a print out or the name and social for Sandra as well, or just copy Sandra in the e-mail to Elaine.--If the patron is in the system with a different ID# than the card, ("old" staff or alumni) then tell them that their account needs to be linked to the new card. In Sandra's absence, send them to Central, unless you feel comfortable changing the ID in the patron record.
5) Return the card to the patron. Allow access to the Library for that day, even if they need a new card.
Elaine Goleski is the person in the Library system who handles turnstile problems. She is the Assistant to the University Librarian and can be reached at 3-4701. You may call her for an immediate response, but she also responds to e-mail.
On occasions when she is on vacation, Alyce Dobyns Ladd will be the one to contact for Gen6 turnstile problems. Her number is 2-7110.
