Rush Items - Receiving

The point of this part of the process is to get the book onto the hold shelf under the patron’s name so that the patron receives a notice that the book is available. Presently, rush books are put on the truck from Marking and Binding with the other items that they bring down to us.

Procedure

  1. Discharge the item
  2. Charge it to yourself
  3. Using the patron’s barcode number, place a recall on the item
  4. Discharge the item
  5. A message will appear on the screen telling you to place the item on the hold shelf for the patron.
  6. Put a hold slip in the book with the patron’s name, and
  7. Place it on the hold shelf
  8. Be sure to remove any flags that are left in the item
  9. Place these in a basket to be sent to Cataloging or Order Services

Postscript

The next morning, an available notice will be printed and mailed out to the patron telling them the book is available
